About Us

Many Christian families were started to migrate to the UK from different
parts of the world since 2000, and their spiritual needs were not met due to
the limited number of parishes as well as travelling distance. Many occasions
people had to travel hundred miles to reach to London and attend the Holy
Qurbana in Malayalam language. Rev. Fr. Eldhose Koungampillil happened to
visit southern parts of the England and organise the Malayalee community.
He started with a small prayer group and celebrated the Holy Qurbana at St.
Mary’s church, Yapton in 2002. By his initiation and leadership St. Thomas
Prayer Fellowship came into existence ever since December 2002 which
facilitates prayer meetings and other gatherings in the area with the
cooperation of all other denominations. St Thomas Prayer Fellowship
flourished in all sense since the inception and it has been coordinating prayer
meetings, Christmas and ‘Onam’ celebrations, family tours etc with
participation of hundreds of people from different communities and
denominations, including Hindus and Muslims. In the following years the
population of Jacobite Syrian Christians increased significantly in the south
East part of the UK, which warranted the need for the formulation of this
parish. The first general body meeting of the parish was summoned by the
Vicar in July 2005 at the residence of Mr. Peter Mappanalil. This general body
meeting elected nine members to the managing committee of the parish with
Mr. Anish George as Trustee and Mr. Basil Aluckal as Secretary. This
meeting happened to be the turning point of this parish’s enviable growth
under the able leadership of its president and Vicar, Rev. Fr. Eldhose
Kaungumpillil.
